Editing

For our editing, we decided to use iMovie rather than Pinnacle studios. We chose this because it was more efficient for us because we knew how to use it better than pinnacle studios. Also, using iMovie allows us to edit at home. This takes away the restriction of only editing during class time. Also, iMovie is more accessible to all of us because you can edit on your iPhone with it. Therefore, if we don’t have access to a computer, we can still work on our project. IMovie is very easy to use, similar to pinnacle studios. You can import pretty much as much footage as you want. You can add text and do everything that pinnacle studios can. Another benefit of using iMovie is that it is faster. The school computers are sometimes very slow. This is not helpful for us trying to edit out footage.
All of us in my group contributed to the editing. Whether we have the idea, or actually edited. We used a lot of jump cuts and it was difficult to connect the sound to the visuals. We had to make sure they were connected as perfect as possible. The lip syncing, I think, was one of the hardest things to edit. We needed our lips to line up with the actual music. We also had to see which footage was actually usable. A lot of it wasn’t centered or had different problems. We either had to fix it or use different footage. We got a lot of footage so this wasn’t a huge problem. It was also hard choosing the order of the shots. We had to make sure we didn’t have duplicates or anything like that. Eventually, everything was figured out.
Our group member, Savanna, is really good at editing. She has edited lots of things before so she did most of it. She made sure everything was smooth. We didn’t want any choppy cuts. We also had to make sure our scenes made sense and that they flowed together well. We made sure of this by watching it over and over to make it perfect. After 1 minute and 10 seconds, we ended it, although it was kind of in an awkward spot in the music. We just made it a fade out and cut it at a better time to fix that problem.

Filming 2

This weekend my group and I were able to film. My dad drove me to Savanna’s house, where we all met up. We filmed some scenes in her dads car, mostly of us getting in and out. These scenes were filmed by one of us(the group members). There was no one else in our music video besides the people in our group. The only people that were in it other than us were the people at the public places we went to. Our transportation to all of the locations we went to was Savanna’s dad. We chose to film at the beach and the mall because those are typical music video places. We chose how to film differently in each situation. We also had to be considerate of all the other people around us.
We started at the mall. We took a few takes of us walking into the mall by setting my phone  up on a table. Then we walked around the mall to see where would be the best fit to film. There weren’t many people in the store H&M, so we decided that was a good place. We created a short dance to go with the chorus lyrics. We set up my phone on a shelf and we took many, many shots of us doing the dance to ensure we got a usable one. It felt weird when people would watch us. We also had the song playing so that the timing was right in the dance. We also took shots of us walking in and out of the store. Looking back at the footage, all of our shots were pretty good.
Next, we went to the beach. We walked there from the mall and it was very short. I took a pan shot of Kelly and Savanna while they were sitting in the beach. We took shots of us casually dancing. Then we set my phone up on a pillar and did the same dance as the one at the mall. We did this many times because we had to readjust the phone camera. We also took a few shots of Kelly laying down on the sand and just vibing out to the music. All of our shots were pretty much usable. We had a very successful day of filming. I definitely think we improved on our filming skills since the commercial.
